2017 Kia Sorento owner complaints

Was driving down the street engine started to make loud noise and stalled coasted to a parking lot. Noticed smoke got out to find the engine engulfed in flames.

This car has been consuming oil at a crazy rate I have been to the dealer at least 20 times with them saying I need to do oil consumption tests which I thought was already done but the car is misfiring and all that can be done right now is to drive it until engine seizes my question is how is this ok how does Kia sell a certified car with only 15,000 miles on it (when purchased) tell people well can’t help you because you are not the original owner

I bought my Sorento new in 2017 and had been taking it in to the dealership for regular maintenance. It started drinking oil a few months ago and an in-warranty oil consumption test was done. It's still using a lot of oil AND now it has a bad cylinder and needs a new $5,000 engine. It's out of warranty now and I'm disappointed that regular service appointments over the last five years didn't prevent this. It makes them seem pointless in retrospect.

I was driving and heard a loud noise. The car started to hesitate and was making a knocking noise. I pulled over and had it towed where I was told it was a rod bearing failure and I needed a new engine. It had 130,000 miles. I have been reading online and found a lot of vehicles with the same engine as mine where this has happened and there are no recalls. Engines size 3.3L V6. Right now the car is sitting. I still owe on it and can’t afford to have it fixed. The oil was changed regularly. It was changed four weeks before this happened. No warnings.

December 19,2019 our 2017 Kia sorrento with 37k miles on it would not start. The temperature was below zero and thought that has something to do with it. Initially the car tried turning over but after a few attempts, it stopped doing anything. We worked through a number of problem solving steps and after a while called roadside assistance and they towed the car to the Kia dealership where we leased it from. On december 23, we called for a status and were told the engine is seized. The service department said the oil drained was black and sludge. They went on to say we did not change the oil and will be responsible for a new engine and labor. The oil was changed on time as the Kia reminds you of the service. There was no notice or indication that there was an issue, just seized.

Vehicle was stationary parked in driveway. Rear lift gate was activated by owner with key fob. Grandchild ran under the lift gate. Owner pulled child from rear lift. Gate brushed child's back and continued to close . Owner then placed several inaminate objects under rear of car protruding from cargo hold and engaged the lift gate. Gate closed each time unrestricted trapping the object. Called Kia reported problem.

I brought my vehicle to the dealership dec 09 2019 (mileage 56176) as instructed by service tech in order for them to check reason this vehicle is using a lot of oil in between oil changes. Service tech checked oil and found oil was down 1.25 qts. Service tech opened tech line case and sent pictures to Kia. I was instructed to return to dealership to recheck oil level in 1000 miles. Today, dec. 30 2019, (mileage 57231) I returned to dealership. Oil was down 1 qt. After 1055 miles. If you do the math, engine only holds 5.5 quarts of oil, if I go the entire 7500 miles in between oil change(as per owner manual) I would be out of oil.service tech added 1 qt. The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph when the vehicle began to lag in acceleration when attempting to go uphill. The driver noticed a spark within the instrument panel directly behind the steering wheel. The driver then immediately pulled over and both the driver and the passenger (the contact) exited the vehicle. The vehicle then caught fire. The fire department showed and distinguished the fire. A report was made. There were no injuries. The vehicle was towed and deemed totaled. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was contacted and made aware of the failure. A case was opened regarding the matter. The approximate failure mileage was unknown

The vehicle does not display any warning that the system is not in operation.

continuous issues with "sticky" or "notchy" steering. Steering is not smooth and almost caused several accidents.

The steering on my sorento ex feels 'sticky' and unsafe. Whenever driving, whether in the city, on the highway, or in a neighborhood, it feels as though the steering wheel is constantly getting stuck for half of a second and needs consistent readjustment. The problem is especially evident when driving around a turn, but it is very noticeable even while driving on a straight road or highway.

Steering is sticky while driving at highway speeds. Starts mild and increases stickiness over time. Has gotten worse over the years.

The truck steering sticks at highway speeds. It resists moving then lets go all at once. This causes over correction forcing the truck to wander side to side in the lane. I've had it back to the dealer twice with no solution. It's an irritation at best and unsafe at worst.

1 week after purchasing my 2017 Kia sorento fe AWD from rochester tom kadlec Kia in august 2019, I went to use my cruise control and it wouldn't set. "cruise" came on, but could not be set to my speed. Issue happened around 1-2 times a week on 45 mile commute on highway. Later on about a month later, I set my cruise control and once set, the speed began to climb. Starting at 65, and going up to 70 before I had to use my brakes to turn cruise control off as the buttons didn't work. On dec 16th, my car showed a check engine light then stalled after putting it into drive from reverse. I turned the car off, then back on and drove "normally". As I was making a right hand turn on to a busy highway, my gas peddle stopped working and I was stuck in the middle of the road with on coming traffic. My car was taken to Kia and had a wire replaced that connected to the computer. A few days later as I was on the interstate my car was trying to drive itself. My car was trying to excel faster than I wanted it to go. I was behind a tracker trailer and I was scared I was going to hit it. My car is now at Kia service. They were going to replace the full throttle body but then received notice to put a halt on that because of another issue. I do not feel safe putting my children back in this vehicle.

The contact took the vehicle to metro Kia of madison (5442 wayne terrace, madison, wi 53718) and was informed that the vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign number: 18v907000 (fuel system, gasoline, engine). The dealer replaced the knock sensor. On another occasion, while traveling 45 MPH, the same failure occurred with the check engine warning indicator flashing. The contact returned the vehicle to the same dealer and was informed that the VIN was included in a new unknown recall. The vehicle remained in the possession of the dealer. The manufacturer was not notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.

Vehicle was parked, and running, on sloped driveway. My wife, who had exited the car, returned to turn the car off. She opened the door and turned the car off. The car then began rolling down the driveway. The car door was still open and my wife ended up running backwards with the car, which went into a street and hit a curb. The door hit my my wife in the head causing her to fall. She sustained road rash abrasions on her hip and shoulder. She has no recollection of the incident. She spent a night in the hospital and had to undergo a ct scan, brain mri, eeg and hip xray. All those turned out negative. The diagnosis from the doctor was transient global amnesia.

The vehicle is in immacutlate condition and when I went to wash it yesterday I noticed what appear to be a spot. When I sprayed with water the paint peeled off and I noted that it is dowing this on other spots on the bumper. I take excellent care of this car and to see paint peeling off when the car has not even done 100,000 miles is very disappointing. Only to find that Kia has had compaints and it is documented that many customers have had issues with the snow white pearl paint peeling. Why has Kia not offered to rectify the situation. the vehicle is available for inspection but it is my understanding that Kia only warranty's the paint for one year. Coolant system not functioning properly replace thermostat and worked a day then back to overheating. Engine overheating with new oil and filter also shakes badly Car does not shut of when ignition is pressed the first time have start the car then shut it off again
