2019 Hyundai Veloster owner complaints

Engine locked on me during driving almost caused a car rear ending me during rush hour. Called AAA and they printed out a recall form for over heated piston that may cause engine damage. Towed to Tito Auto care and then printed out the same information for recall details NHTSA Campaign Number 21V301000. Advised me to take to Hyundai dealership to repair for free. Hyundai states the vendor number is not pulling up for a recall. Both AAA and Tito Autocare stated they would fight this. I am requesting you order the Hyundai Manufaturer to repair. I believe there were missed vin numbers in the recall including my vin number.

This has happened 3 times. While driving the car it slows down and RPMS go up. I’ll be driving on expressway at approximate 60 mph then slows down to a crawl on expressway. 1st time it happened the dealer said a hose came off the turbo causing the issue. 2nd time it happened they said it was a coil. Now it happened again I almost got into and accident as the engine revs but transmission not engaging

The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that fuel and oil were leaking into the exhaust pipe, allowing smoke into the cabin. The contact owns a 2019 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated that while attempting to accelerate, the vehicle failed to respond with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the engine was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

2.0 engine loss of power and stalls. Engine makes knocking noises and timing chain slipping. First reported to dealership on August 21 and was told they could not be able to look at the car for three months. Vehicle was kept out of service for four weeks. Reported to dealership again on 9/14/2023 and visited the dealership on 9/16 after no response. Also notified the dealership of recall involving this year model engine but received no recall notice from Hyundai. All symptoms of this recall were experienced with this vehicle.

Attempted to pull out of our neighborhood and car check engine light as well as every other light came on on the dashboard. Car completely loss power and stalled in the middle of the road. Multiple attempts to re-start the car but would not start. Had mechanic check vehicle, originally pulled a code for fuel pump but when tested a few days later and at the fuel pump that code was gone. Checked everything could not find a reason it would not start. Called the Hyundai dealership and they said yeah your engine lost compression and probably has to be replaced but we can't tell you for sure until you bring it in and it will be $350 to tell you if that is the problem. I was driving to work on the morning of July 14, 2022. I was in a work zone with cones on both sides of me my vehicle lost compression as I was compressing the accelerator I started hearing a low rapping or knocking sound, This knocking increased and repetition rather quickly and my car would not accelerate as it had been. This car was recalled for a bad engine and because their computer would not throw off a code they refused to replace the bad engine. It has 60000 miles on it and has been well maintained. The rocker arms have gone bad and there are countless others who have the same issue that Hyundai refuses to address because now computer code was thrown off. They hide behind this to avoid replacing their bad engines.

Driver's door will not open/unlatch from the outside in cold weather, I.e., below 35 degrees, locked or unlocked. The car was stationary, parked, twice in the driveway, twice away from the house in a parking lot. This just started happening but happens now each time the temperature drops overnight. There are many similar complaints online with no solution.

Drivers side door will not open from the outside in cold (freezing or below) temperatures. It seems to still be locked, despite unlocking the car and being able to open all other doors on the car. Must be opened from the inside through the passenger door.

When you put the car in DRIVE it will go in REVERSE. Happened several times and on the last time caused us to back into a pole and mess up the back bumper. We were trying to go forward but went in reverse. We have video proof but I can't load the video in this document.

My car battery died and I changed the battery. I noticed that the engine lights were on, so I made an appointment to get it checked as well as complete a state inspection. My airbags did not deploy when the vehicle was hit in the front end. The car was a total loss (21 thousand in damage to the front end).

When entering an intersection, my collision avoidance system engaged and abruptly stopped the car in the middle of the intersection. There were several cars that had been in front of me turning to the right but were well ahead of me. The only other car was on the opposite side of the intersection sitting at a stop heading in the other direction. There was a strong sun glare but other than that it was a perfect day. I was traveling at approx 30 MPH on a 2 lane road.

The vehicle clutch disc delaminated and exploded while driving the vehicle. The pressure plate, clutch cylinder and several hydraulic parts were also damaged. This also caused the brakes to stop working since the clutch and brakes share a reservoir.

While driving the vehicle has stalled/engine shuts off at different speeds and also while the vehicle's steering wheel is turned to move it into a different direction (for example making a right turn at a perpendicular street/road). There is a concern for the operator's safety and others operating around a stalling vehicle especially at higher velocity/speeds and when traffic is heavy. The dealership has recommended an engine replacement, not sure if the dealer has been able to reproduce the problem. Currently, the vehicle has only been inspected by a dealership. The flashing engine light first appeared on 06/07/2024, this would be the second time the vehicle stalled (engine shut off) on the same day.
