Is there a fix? Manufacturer service bulletins

The manufacturer has issued service bulletins covering electrical on this vehicle — documented repair instructions, service campaigns, or warranty extensions sent to dealers. A TSB isn't a recall (it's not a free safety remedy), but it's the manufacturer acknowledging the issue and how to fix it.

Service Bulletin SSM 53966 Jun 2025

Some 2021-2025 Ford/ Lincoln vehicles equipped with SYNC4 may not be able to perform an update to the accessory protocol interface module (APIM). This may be due to the software in the APIM. Ford Engineering has de-activated the ability to update these SYNC4 APIM modules as applicable, and the Ford Diagnosis and Repair System (FDRS) will not present an update for the APIM module. Some existing directed repairs may be impacted, check Professional Technician System (PTS) before attempting any specific technical service bulletin (TSB)/special service message (SSM) and check field service action (FSA) landing pages before attempting any FSA repairs. The failure pattern owners describe

Water getting into the BJB (battery junction box) fuse panel is the big one. Owners describe this happening during rain or cold weather, causing loss of power to windows, locks, radio, A/C, heat, turn signals, and headlights. The real kicker: the engine won't shut off when you kill the key, and one owner had to yank the fuel pump relay just to get it to die. Some 2022s have also suffered complete electrical blackouts while driving—all power drops, no lights, no radio, nothing—then the truck restarts 8 to 15 minutes later. Dealers struggle to nail these down because they're intermittent.

Door locks are another sore spot. Several owners report false door ajar warnings, passenger door locks that won't engage or disengage automatically, and driver-side lock actuators that quit entirely. The door ajar sensor failures started cropping up right after bumper-to-bumper warranty ended—consistent enough that some owners believe it's a latent defect, not wear.

Throttle cuts out under load on the highway in at least one truck, forcing rapid deceleration in traffic. Trailer brake controllers throw false fault codes while wiring checks out fine. The reverse camera goes to static or unresponsive. And AC temperature sensors fail around 40k miles, preventing defrost with a $3,000 repair bill if you need the dash removed.

Dealers have been unhelpful. Refusing goodwill coverage, delaying recalls six months due to parts shortages, and claiming they can't fix intermittent issues without replicating them on the lift.

Failure modes owners describe

Fuse box water intrusion / power distribution module failure

Water accumulation inside the BJB (battery junction box) fuse panel causes loss of multiple electrical systems including power windows, locks, radio, A/C, heat, turn signals, and headlights. Engine fails to shut off when key is removed. Can result in complete power loss while driving. Owners report the fuse box lid is too easy to remove.

When: Typically during or shortly after rain or cold weather; one case after 1 year of ownership; another after approximately 13 months

Symptoms owners cite: Loss of power windows; Loss of A/C and heat; Loss of turn signals; Loss of radio; Loss of headlights; Engine will not shut off after key removal; Complete loss of electrical power while driving; Multiple alarms triggered from fuse panel; Throttle stops working, vehicle goes to idle

Repairs/costs cited: Fuse box replacement performed at dealership; one owner quoted labor cost after warranty expiration (5,000 miles out of coverage); repair cost estimated at $3,000+ for some electrical work involving dash removal

Recalls/TSBs owners mention: Ford Service Bulletin issued; NHTSA Campaign 25V132000 (Electrical System) recall issued but parts unavailable with 6-month wait for appointment

Intermittent complete electrical shutdown while driving

Vehicle loses all electrical power without warning while driving at highway speeds. Headlights, radio, interior lights, and engine control all go dead. Vehicle restarts after 8-15 minutes. Occurs sporadically with no identifiable trigger.

When: Brand new (6-8 months after purchase); recurred at 18,000 miles after fuse box replacement; different occurrence at 35 mph

Symptoms owners cite: Complete loss of electrical power while driving; No lights; No engine response to key; Interior lights still illuminated during some events; Vehicle restarts spontaneously after delay

Repairs/costs cited: Fuse box replaced under warranty initially; subsequent failure could not be diagnosed by dealers due to intermittent nature and inability to replicate at service

Door latch / door ajar sensor system malfunction

Door ajar sensors falsely indicate that doors are fully closed when they are open, or indicate doors are open when fully closed. Triggers false alarms and safety warnings. Occurs on multiple 2022 Ford F-250 vehicles from same owner and documented on other identical vehicles. Manifests shortly after bumper-to-bumper warranty expiration.

When: Shortly after warranty expiration; one case at unknown mileage

Symptoms owners cite: False door ajar warning lamps; False alarms triggered; Safety warnings displayed when doors are fully closed

Recalls/TSBs owners mention: Dealership refused to classify as defect; declined goodwill consideration; refused to provide written determination

Front passenger door lock actuation failure

Front passenger door lock does not engage or disengage automatically. Initially intermittent during warranty period; becomes complete failure after warranty expiration. All other door locks function properly.

When: Intermittent during warranty; complete failure after warranty expiration

Symptoms owners cite: Front passenger door lock does not lock automatically when driving; Front passenger door lock does not unlock automatically; Other door locks function normally

Recalls/TSBs owners mention: Dealership refused to service as warranty issue; manufacturer refused goodwill repair

Front driver side door lock actuator failure

Door lock actuator on front driver side does not respond to key fob or door lock switch.

When: Unknown; not specified by owner

Symptoms owners cite: Door lock does not respond to key fob; Door lock does not respond to door lock switch

Engine throttle reduction under load / limp mode activation

Engine loses power and reduces speed on its own while driving on interstate. Check Engine light and wrench light illuminate. Vehicle decelerates rapidly and becomes difficult to maneuver in traffic. Occurs repeatedly with multiple dealership repair attempts.

When: At approximately 37,000 miles; occurred multiple times over service history

Symptoms owners cite: Engine light illuminated; Wrench light illuminated; Loss of throttle while driving; Vehicle reduces speed on its own; Rapid deceleration; Difficult to steer or maneuver in traffic

Codes mentioned: Check Engine, Wrench Light

Repairs/costs cited: Vehicle towed multiple times; repaired by more than one Ford dealership; currently sitting at dealership after 2 weeks

Recalls/TSBs owners mention: Buyback request refused by dealership when vehicle was under 1 year old

AC evaporator temperature sensor failure

AC evaporator temperature sensor fails, preventing defrost operation. Windshield cannot be defrosted, impairing driver visibility.

When: At 40,000 miles

Symptoms owners cite: Cannot defrost windshield; Cannot see properly due to lack of defrost

Repairs/costs cited: Quoted repair cost $3,000 to remove dash and replace sensor

Recalls/TSBs owners mention: Ford TSB 22-2089

Rear camera system intermittent malfunction

Reverse (bed) camera fails intermittently. When operational, displays white static screen or does not respond to button inputs.

When: Unknown; not specified by owner

Symptoms owners cite: Camera does not display image; White static appearing on screen; Button does not respond when selected

Trailer brake controller fault detection and activation failure

Trailer brake system signals faults that do not match actual wiring condition. Controller shows trailer connected and correct gain settings but brakes do not activate. Affects multiple trailers when connected to truck.

When: Unknown; not specified by owner

Symptoms owners cite: Trailer brake fault messages display (trailer not connected, trailer wiring fault); Trailer brakes do not activate when requested; False fault signals with confirmed good trailer wiring; Issue occurs with multiple different trailers

Repairs/costs cited: Trailers have been inspected by shop; wiring and plug ends confirmed good on trailer side
