2008 Chrysler Pacifica owner complaints

Vehicle shuts completely off during drive at least twice per day. Mechanic was unable to duplicate problem. This happens at both high and low speeds around town and on the highway. Oil light turns on and all power is lost. Struggle to steer or apply brakes once it shuts down. This began over a year ago and has gotten worse as the time has gone by. *tr

I was driving and the car just turned of on me in the middle of the intersection. Luckily as soon as I realized that it had turned off I was able to clear the intersection and pull to the far right before the light turned green to oncoming traffic. I had the car towed home and the next day I had a personal mechanic come take a look at it and found out that I needed to replace my ignition system. After hundreds of dollars later the car turns on but it has so many malfunctions with the electrical system, struts, axle, motor mounts and frame that this vehicle is just dangerous to drive and needs to be recalled altogether. *tr

Any time I wash my car, somehow I think water goes in to the sensors. After the carwash if I try to start it, the light flicker on and off and it refuses to start. Even when it rains, the water makes its way into the sensors and it does not start. It makes noise like when there are electric shocks. There has been occasions in which it does not detect the key and does not start.

Relatively new SUV (2008 Chrysler pacifica) with approximately 6,000 miles experienced a breakdown caused by the engine overheating on interstate 95 in maine while on a trip. After being towed to a local Chrysler dealer, it was determined that the lower radiator hose had failed due to probable incorrect installation at time of manufacture. The radiator hose was found to have a hole in it which caused the loss of coolant and subsequent overheating. This hole apparently was caused by the hose rubbing up against a part of the engine, causing it to wear and brake prematurely. *tr

The failure occurred several times. The dealer was unable to diagnose the cause of the failure. The manufacturer stated that the vehicle was ineligible for any warranty repairs. Purchased a 2008 Chrysler pacifica with approximately 32k miles on it. The car was "certified" by Chrysler. At approximately 44k miles the engine would bang when shifting out of park to reverse or drive. According to the dealer the engine mounts were torn and needed to be replaced. I was told engine mounts are not covered under warranty because it's considered normal wear and tear and it would be around $700 to fix. I reviewed the Chrysler owner's manual and there is nothing that mentions motor mounts needing inspection for wear and tear. The standard items are listed such as oil, tires, filters, belts, fluid etc. If motor mounts are subject to normal wear and tear shouldn't they be listed so an owner can have them inspected? Vehicle purchased new jan 08, currently has 21,000 miles, while driving approx. 30 MPH, all power was lost, car stalled without warning. Able to restart and drive approx 300 feet, car shut down second time. Towed to dealership, where for the past several days they have been unable to replicate problem. All power steering was lost. We have lost all peace of mind. Terrified to drive car in traffic. Long list of similar complaints can be found on internet on previous pacifica models. *tr

The vehicle was placed in neutral and restarted. The failure recurred several times. The vehicle was towed to the dealer (junction auto in chardon, ohio, 440-285-5700) for diagnostic testing, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall. The failure was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 47,000.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic three times where the motor mount was replaced on each visit but to no avail. The manufacturer was not made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000.

The gearshift sticks in park position and does not release. Upon investigation there is a small plastic lever with a spring attached to it that has become broken. Upon review this has occurred the number of times with the Chrysler vehicle.

Engine cradle is extremely rusted for the year and mileage of the car. Would not pass state inspection last week. Passenger side and mid section of engine cradle rusted enough that you could put your fingers thru it. Readin online this seems to be a major problem with these cars. This appears to be the only rust on the vehicle. *tr

I bought this car from the original owner in 2009 with 38k miles on it. Since then, I have had to replace the engine mount three times! Recently , the car has been overheating while driving with smoke coming from under the hood. At first, I had some hoses replaced. The mechanic has now advised that it needs a radiator replacement. I have called around and dealerships say that it is hard to get to the radiator on this car due to its design, so the cost is $1600. At this point, I am afraid to drive the car. I have read through these complaints and Chrysler has known about the engine mount problems with this car since at least 2011, and still no recall! Several other people have also experienced the overheating issue. I am baffled because Chrysler has just brought out a new version

Oil light turns on and all power is lost. Problem existed on 2006 model but dealership claims issue was resolved and will not consider symptoms for the 2008 model. They kept my vehicle for four days and claimed the problem never surfaced. I was charged $100 and before the day ended, the fault occurred twice on the interstate. *tr

You could actually feel the bump in the steering wheel at initial acceleration as the motor mounts continued to get worse. Generated a very metallic noise in the transmission as well. Motor mounts had to be replaced. It's hard to tell what residual effects this will have on the vehicle since this has affected the overall alignment of the transmission, steering etc. I've spoken with other owners this has happened to. Apparently, this has been going on since the inception of the car model, 04-05. *tr

While the vehicle was in motion towards an intersection, it lost power. I had to switch off all accessories, shifted gear to park and re-started the engine. Yesterday night, the vehicle stopped in motion by a toll gate, a truck was behind me and fortunately, by the toll gate, everyone slowed down. These are serious issues that Chrysler need to act on.no one should have to suffer any more loss(es) before Chrysler acts. *tr

Front cross-member connecting the side frame rails is rusting through due to water draining from a/c evaporator. This was found at annual safety inspection at the dealer while up on rack.

ABS warning light comes on and then vehicle shuts-down while driving causing steering to be lost etc. Owners manual mentions this as normal habit and you must put vehicle in park and wait a few minutes to restart. This is dangerous while driving to have vehicle just stop operations.

The airbag light in the dashboard blinks once in a while. This is issue started around august 2019.
