Door latch sticks and vehicle won't sense that the door is closed. Clearly an issue for Ford based on an internet search yet nothing is being done to help. Daughter at school can't get interior lights to go off and can't lock door because the car thinks door is open.

Door ajar sensors are failing and not allowing me to lock.

electrical · 100,000 mi · filed 11/17/2016

Driver side door ajar sensor comes on frequently. Interior light stays on when this happens, making it difficult to drive at night. Sometimes it causes the alarm to go off during the night, which is aggrivating. Such a nice car but this is an embarrassing problem. I just bought this car used but the owner said she has had this problem several times before.

Lift gate will open without prompting. Have parked the vehicle and went inside and come back outside and liftgate will be open. At other times it will not open or close when I push the button on the dash or the rear cargo button or key fob button. Camera goes fuzzy or blacks out.

Common questions

How serious is the electrical problem on the 2011 Lincoln MKX?

It's a documented issue but not catastrophic. 38 complaints have been filed. Repairs average $850 and most owners catch it before it causes a breakdown.

At what mileage does the electrical typically fail?

Across the 25 complaints that reported odometer mileage, most electrical failures cluster between 52,000 and 100,000 miles, with the median around 82,560. A quarter of owners report trouble before 52,000; a quarter make it past 100,000. Maintenance history matters more than the odometer alone — this is the reported failure window, not a guarantee.

What does it cost to fix?

Independent shops typically charge around $850 for electrical repairs on this vehicle. Dealer pricing tends to run 20-40% higher. The exact figure depends on the specific failure mode, parts availability, and your local labor rates. If you're outside factory warranty, an extended service contract often covers this category.

Are there any recalls related to electrical?

No active recalls currently cover electrical issues on this vehicle. The complaints filed represent owner-reported failures that haven't risen to the level of a manufacturer-issued recall — but they're still worth knowing about before you buy or budget for repairs.
