2012 Ford Focus owner complaints

Started car up ,steering locked up,turn car off,restart steering worked,car was stationary

While driving steering fault service immediately and an exclamation mark appeared on the dashborad. At the same time the car would barely steer and I had a very hard time getting it off the road. I called for roadside assistance and they took it to the dealership. *kb

I had pulled out of the driveway into the street, and the power steering failed. It was very difficult to maneuver the vehicle back into the driveway. If this had happened on a busy street or highway, or while turning a corner, a loss of control would have been entirely possible.

My problem first started with the steering wheel locking up upon start of vehicle at random times. I could put the vehicle in forward or reverse and drive but the wheel wouldn't turn. I would turn the car off and on to get the wheel to finally start turning. After a few days of that, I started noticing problems with the steering at high speeds. While driving down the freeway I was having trouble maintaining a straight path. I would have to constantly make micro adjustments to correct my path. Then I started noticing that at certain points while driving 65+ MPH that my wheel would have spots that were difficult to turn. For example to merge from left lane to right lane would require excessive force and then would get easy again. This is not safe, it was snowing out and the jolt of the

the car runs without power when shifted to drive gear. It is sluggish trying to speed up. Took to Ford Dealers on a recall with that is suppose to take care of it..nothing seems to have changed. I am not sure anything was done. trans makes a rough sound starting..

I have twice received an error when starting the car: "steering assist fault - service required" and I had no power steering whatsoever. The error was resolved both times by restarting the car, but I am very nervous that the fault will occur while the vehicle is in motion and will cause a crash. I've been seeing that this is a relatively common error in a range of Ford vehicles around this model year and hope that a recall will be issued soon.

2012 Ford focus. Consumer writes in regards to steering control module recall repair issues, transmission problems and windshield motor malfunction. *smd the consumer stated on the night of november 12, 2016, a safety warning light appeared on the dash. When he tried driving about 12 miles home, he had no power steering. The problem did not occur again. On monday november 14, 2016 the consumer stopped by a non-Ford garage. No work was performed. However, the mechanic stated the problem was the steering control module. The mechanic suggested taking the vehicle to the dealer. Upon inspection, the dealer claimed there was no problem, but to bring the vehicle back, if the light came on again. The dealer informed the consumer three were no transmission problem. Lost power steering to vehicle, unable to drive due to safety concerns. Transmission hesitates when driven or when gasing from a stop.

I just started to have and issue with a power steering malfunction on my 2012 car the wheel locked making difficult to move it or make it turn very dangerous issue that can cause a serious issue for the publics safety Ford need to be accountable for this manufacture defect

While driving vehicle on the highway and using cruise control vehicle fails to maintain speed. The cruise control abruptly shuts off without warning and driver has to take over. The vehicle maintenance light turns on/off periodically. Dealer has investigated and diagnosed this as the wiring harness under the passenger seat short circuiting and causing power issues. I believe this may be related to the existing wiring issue at the michigan plant (http://www.clickondetroit.com/consumer/recalls/Ford-recalls-160000-focus-escape-models-for-wiring-problem). May be related to reports of sudden power loss in focus electric vehicles.

I am filing a complaint against a 2012 Ford focus se. The car has been making transmission noises that cannot be resolved for quite some time now and while driving on the 101 freeway, all of the instrument panel lights came on and the entire car completely shut off and no controls were working at all almost causing an intense pile up that could have killed my mother and I instantly. We were left in the middle of the freeway with not power of any use of controls until chp officers were finally blocking traffic from hitting us. This is the worst vehicle we have ever owned and Ford should be ashamed for being negligent. *js

I was driving home and it started to shift incorrectly and luckily I was closer to home. By the time I had to turn into my driveway it quit shifting all together. My door locks do not lock, I've had to bungee the rear doors together. My mirrors do not work. Also the fuel gauge doesn't read correctly.

The contact took the vehicle to bob ferrando Ford Lincoln (8868 w ridge rd, girard, pa 16417), but it was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 82,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 Ford focus. The contact stated that pressure was applied to the accelerator pedal and the vehicle lost power and began jerking abnormally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times for the failure. The dealer reprogrammed the electronic computer for the transmission but the failure was not corrected. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but the vehicle was not further repaired. The failure mileage was 1 and the current mileage was 8,500.

TCM transmission malfunction light came on. We just bought the car two months ago. Have had it in the shop more than it has been driven. We have and extended warranty but they said it would cost us out of pocket and we haven’t even driven this a long distance and has two year warranty or 24,000 miles.

Takata recall Ford focus 2012 passenger rear door no longer closes as latch will not engage, this happened whilst stationary luckily, the rear doors are rarely used and for a 3 year old car this is a poor failure. Had to use rope to bind door to drivers rear door as I had to get vehicle back home. Extremely dangerous situation and am glad it did not happen whilst driving or braking. Contacted clovis Ford dealership and basically their response was it's not in warranty so you're on your own. Regardless of all the fiesta and fusion recalls with similar issues you think they would be at least slightly interested in helping with this matter. Poorly constructed safety locks in my mind. Driving to get the mail.our mail box is at the end of our road about half a mile from the house. There is a drainage ditch that must be crossed parallel too the road that has the mail boxes on it. This is a t intersection. Just before the ditch the car slowed so I pressed the throttle to regain speed and nothing happened I pressed the throttle again and it acted as if it had been floored and did not return. The car sped up and went into the ditch even though I was pushing on the break.it flew out of the ditch and through the mail boxes, taking out three boxes and trapping me in the car with boxes on each side preventing the doors from opening. The car received a lot of body damage and had to go to the shop. *js

The trunk lid opens while driving. It has happened about 7 times driving at various speeds including highway speeds. I have brought it to the Ford dealer to check for problems. No problem is ever found but it continues to happen. Note the only way to normally open the trunk is with the remote. I have tried using the spare key to determine whether it is the remote sending a signal while driving but the problem occurs with both keys. My suspicion is there is some rf signal which is causing this to occur. The latch is fine and Ford conformed no issues with the latch.

The contact owns a 2012 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled. No warning light was illuminated. The contact pulled over to the side of the road. The contact added fuel to the vehicle and was able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the fuel tank had collapsed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V735000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 196,000.
