2013 Mitsubishi Outlander owner complaints

Takata recall I was involved in a head on motor vehicle collision in my 2013 outlander sport. Although at the time of impact I was traveling on the highway doing between 45-55 MPH, and the impact area of my vehicle was all front end, not one single airbag deployed. I suffered injuries to my neck and chest that I feel could have been avoided had my airbags deployed at the time of impact.

Takata recall - airbag light has come on and will not go off. Occurs in park or in drive.

The vehicle was taken to avondale Mitsubishi (10555 papago fwy, avondale, az 85323, (623) 299-8833) to be diagnosed, but the failure could not be duplicated. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 95,000.

Airbag service system light is on In my car and the codes ran and it popped up SR-14-001 they gave me paperwork saying its a recall on my driver seat mounted airbag wiring has been improperly installed. Dealership is saying its not a recall.

As a result, the contact crashed into the rear passenger's side of the vehicle and the air bags failed to deploy. The driver and front passenger sustained minor bruises that required medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a towing yard but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 38,000.

AIRBAG SYSTEM SERVICE REQUIRED message appears on dash. Occurred on 09/20/2018 and again on 09/29/2023. Both times required service to fix. Has now happened again on 10/14/2024. Secondary issue was reported by another driver for same vehicle for NHTSA ID Number: 11339357 and NHTSA ID Number: 11567379

My air bags did not deploy, the seat belt did not engage. Therefore I struck the steering wheel twice, and whipped my neck. *tr

On Dec 8,2023 our mitsubishi outlander shut off while being driven. When this occurred multiple warning lights come on including, service engine immediately, engine overheating (which it was not) and multiple other lights. It was towed to the dealership where they told us the ECU is bad. Mitsubishi no longer makes the part. They have also told us this is the 3rd vehicle in the last month with the same issue. Car had no power/electrical /engine issues prior to this event. Mitsubishi is offering no solution to fix the issue. Luckily when the car shut down we were driving at a low speed in a neighborhood. If this had happened on the freeway it could have been very dangerous. We now have no car, no possibility of repair and no answers to why this happened without warning.

Immobizer system I had been out over two hrs in my car came home for min turned care off it dinged saying immobizer system needs service and car would not start back even this morning

Also, the acs malfunction warning indicator illuminated. The contact also mentioned that the vehicle would not start without being (7) jumpstarted. My electrical system and/or computer brain is not operating properly. About a year and 1/2 ago the low beam passenger light stopped working. I had the bulb replaced at Walmart. 2 months later it went out again. Walmart checked and said the bulb was not the problem so I went to Firestone and was told the wiring was melted. Firestone said my options were to replace the entire harness or pig tail the low beam. I opted for the pig tail. A few months later I had issues with slow starts as if my battery was being drained. A few weeks after that my drivers side low beam started working intermittently. Then went out completely. I went to Gillman dealership in Schertz, TX (330 miles from my home) who said the bulb needed to be replaced which they did. A month later the drivers low beam is out agai

Between april and may 2014 this 2013 Mitsubishi outlander has been having difficulty in starting, at one point it would not start at all. Some belts (I don't know which) squeak every so often. On 03 july 2014 the dealer where the vehicle was purchased and has since been receiving it's scheduled maintenance, indicated that the alternator has to be replaced and that they had none in stock. I was told to call back in a week. I have called every week since then and I am always told it is in back order, that there are many of the same vehicles waiting for this part. Seems to me that this is indicative of a problem. It has been 55 days since they finally diagnosed the problem and cannot keep a alternator for my vehicle in stock long enough to replace the faulty one in my vehicle. *tr

After a long drive, even more so uphills, the transmission starts slipping and the car hesitates to go after a stop. A warning message that the transmission is over heating appears and the car runs at high rpms at only 60 MPH. Error code p1778 has appeared twice. The car only has 71,000 miles

I got stuck in the middle of an intersection turning left. I managed to get it back home, and then needed help pushing it into the driveway, where it sits. 4) I have seen several similar complaints for the years; 2012, and 2014 through 2021. 5) The vehicle has been worked on, and the valve body for the transmission was replaced about a month ago. 6) The warning message that popped up just before the issue was "Transmission service is required." The contact stated that while driving at various speeds and depressing the brake pedal, there was a loud clanking noise coming from the front drivers side brakes. The vehicle was taken several times to the dealer but the failure was undetermined. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 3,000.

Without warning the RPM will drop to zero. At first it would start right back up without having to restart it. Now without warning it will just die and RPM goes to zero and I have to restart it. Check engine light will come on but no diagnostic codes are stored as to what the problem is. It has happened while stopped as well as driving don the road at 50 MPH.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 Mitsubishi outlander. While driving in rainy conditions at approximately 65 MPH, the windshield wipers stopped without warning. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The contact pulled the vehicle over to wait for the rain to stop. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (ray brandt Chevrolet, westbank expy, harvey, la 70058 (504)-229-6013). The dealer diagnosed that the wiper motor was faulty. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign number: 16v792000 (visibility) as a possible solution; however, the VIN was not included in a recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 65,000.

The catalytic converter was recalled and replaced in november of 2017, but now the exhaust manifold is rusted from the inside which caused bits to break off and fall into the new catalytic converter. Now the exhaust manifold needs to be replaced (there are only 4 parts in the nation for this??) and the new, less than a year old, catalytic converter has to be cleaned out of all the rusty metal bits. There is a rattling noise in the engine when idle (rpms jump up and down slightly in idle), quiets a bit once you hit 2-3k rpms and then is loud again around 1-2k rpms. The exhaust manifold is nearly a thousand dollars to replace! I don't live near the ocean or a place where it snows frequently. My 5 year old car shouldn't have rust in the exhaust manifold especially considering the other recall

It says remove key, and I can have the key in my hand. Won't let the key fob lock it either

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who repaired the top liftgate however, the failure recurred. The contact was informed that it was a corrosion issue. The vehicle was taken to verhage Mitsubishi (343 e 8th st, holland, mi 49423 (616) 396-3589) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the top liftgate needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA. The failure mileage was 47,000.
