The ABS brake actuator in my 2013 Prius V failed at just over 91,000 miles in December 2025, making the vehicle unsafe to drive. I understand that this is a known issue with this model of vehicle.

At approximately 150,100 miles (barely outside Toyota's extended warranty) several dash lights came on including the brake, ABS, and traction control lights. A Toyota dealer determined the problem to be the notorious C1391 brake booster issue (which seems identical to previous petition DP19-004). Even though by the time I got the vehicle to the dealer it had 150,300 miles on it (just 300 miles outside the extended warranty), Toyota refuses to pay a dime of the $4,000+ repair cost! I cannot afford the repair cost and since I was NOT warned that I could not drive the car as the brakes were still operational without the ABS, stability control, and traction control, I continued driving it. But after approximately 4 months, on 12/29/2023, at 152,787 miles, as I was slowly driving through a resi

My wife started her car this morning, put it in park and then stepped out to get the mail. The vehicle unexpectedly moved forward running her over and pinning her leg underneath. She is currently at the hospital being checked for internal injuries. Has this been reported and if so, why not fully reported?

With my foot on the brake, coming to a stop at a stop sign, we went over uneven pavement and the car lurched forward while only a few feet from the crosswalk. *tr braking to a stop at an intersection - the road is dry and flat. The car's traction control/slippery icon comes on. Car is parked in an underground parking lot. Start car and reverse out of parking spot when the car suddenly stops and losses power. Had to start car again and the slippery icon comes on and car wouldn't go into gear. Power on and off a few times before car went into gear.

Upon acceleration, several brake related warning lights came on along with a consistent chime. When it came time to stop. The vehicle would not stop then with great pressure on the pedal, I was able to slow the vehicle narrowly avoiding a collision with another vehicle. The vehicle then drove normal after that and a few minutes later the lights went out. When I got home, I scanned for codes and got C1252 and C1256. This appears to be a common problem with these vehicles that Toyota does not want to address.

2013 prius, mileage 100,590 car in motion driving on city streets. While breaking on uneven roads/potholes, the car skids and front wheels lock up and traction control/break assist light appears on the dashboard. When this occurs the car is dangerously slow to break and takes far too long to stop. This happens almost daily on my commute to work in both dry and wet conditions. This seems to be an issue with the breaking/stability system.

I was travelling at 65MPH and realized the brakes were gone there was no pressure in the brake pedal and it just sunk and applied all my strength and nothing happened, luckily this car has engine braking mode and actuated that and came to stop using steep road and hand brake luckily no one was hurt and road was empty. This is a serious issue and applies to every other Toyota prius cars out there

The brakes suddenly failed in our 2013 Prius V while she was driving with our two young children. It was extremely scary, and very dangerous. Toyota has known about the braking system issues for years but refused to offer a recall to avoid costs. This needs to be immediately addressed.

I have just received a recall notice from Toyota regarding an update to the hybrid system on my car. This is the 3rd such recall for the same problem since 2014!! Apparently 2 previous updates to this system have not solved the problems associated with this issue. The recall states that a recall fix is not currently available, that I will be contacted when it is available. First of all, if they are suggesting another software update, then why is this not available, as it is not like they have to order additional parts to fix the issue. Secondly, if 2 previous software updates have not fixed the issue it seems logical that maybe it is a hardware problem, but of course that would be too expensive! When is the NHTSA going to get some teeth and make these companies that are earning billions

Brake actuator failure requires actuator and master cylinder replacement. All dash lights came on while driving. The vehicle was diagnosed at Brian Easler Toyota in Hendersonville North Carolina. The brakes are still operational temporarily but spongy and expected to fail so the car is not drivable. I expect to have the actuator and master cylinder replaced in then next few weeks at a cost of $5600. I see there were previous recalls on the braking system that have now expired.

Repeated failures of the low-beam headlight bulb. Bulbs failing 2-3 times per year. Happens at either passenger or driver side. It's a safety issue because it can mean that the car is driven without both headlights working. This has been a problem for the last couple of years. It just happened again yesterday. I talked with Toyota, and they said that they have no report of this being an issue, but I checked online, and found a number of reports of this issue with the 2013 year.

1st - excessive oil consumption...bought the vehicle new in 2013, never had to refill engine oil in between oil changes of every 10,000 miles (synthetic oil 0w 20). At appx a little over 100,000 miles, check engine light came on and when I checked the dipstick, no oil is registering. Went to a gas station and purchased 1 qt of mobil 1 0w20 and after pouring it in, still not showing any oil in the dipstick. Purchased another quart and finally showed closed to half on the dipstick. I am now averaging appx 1 qt of add on oil every 1200 miles or so, again using 0w20. 2nd - poor MPG...from brand new till appx 70,000 miles or so, was averaging 40 - 42 MPG. Took the car in 2015 for a software recall and immediately, MPG went to 35 - 36 MPG. Dealer claims nothing to do with the recall an
