Around 7/1/2019, an airbag service light started flashing intermittently. I took the car to the dealer (harbor Chevrolet in long beach) who said that they could not reproduce the problem but said that if I wanted they could replace it for ~$1000. I did not get the work done as I though I could find a better price. The light is now on continuously which means that the passenger side air bag will not deploy. This occurs both when the car is stationary and when it is moving on both city streets and highway. There are currently 52k miles on the car.

Volt has 90,000 miles on it & I have air bag sensor error message. Never been in an accident & never spilled anything on the seats. This is a major issue with the volt. Chevy will not repair the issue & want $880. Enough people have had the same issue

The airbag warning light comes on fairly constantly. The dealership says the passenger seat sensor is faulty and needs to be replaced. It is an expensive repair at over $1,000.

Takata recall: I received notification that my car is involved in the airbag recall and to date have heard nothing from the dealership or manufacture.

Our 2014 Chevy Volt began to rarely give an audible chime with a: "Service Airbag" message on the Driver Information Center display, as well as the "Passenger Airbag" overhead panel display showing "On"-"Off"-"On", spontaneously back in 2018. Again, this was rare, but concerning. This became somewhat more common in the months that followed and is now a common annoyance on every drive. Because of personal circumstances, as well as the Coronavirus Pandemic, we have not driven this vehicle much over the past couple of years, and we have not taken the car in for service. It has not yet been inspected by any other entity other than myself. The alarms happen whether the passenger seat is occupied or not. I have read on the GM-Volt online forum that this is likely caused by a defective passeng

Airbag sensor light is on. Garage has already replaced left front and right rear impact sensors. Problem still exists. Garage has already spent 2 days trying to figure out problem. No luck. I just discovered, via a google search, that this is a common problem with my volt. There should be a recall!

10/20/2019 140,000 mi ODI #11269781.0

My volt is giving me a "service airbag soon" warning on startup. Car is kept in a garage. The dealership said it was because I cleaned my seat and got it too wet, but I used standard seat cleaner sparingly. Also, the drivers seat appears to receive the error and this seat has never seen any "moisture". Secondly, with no accidents or collisions, one of the front sonar sensors failed, with the dealership claiming it was due to bug buildup. Another $600 fix that I didn't do because it's nothing of my doing and that's an outrageous amount of money.

The Air Bag light comes on every day. The passenger sight presents sensor malfunction. Technician says this can be harmful to a passenger if in an auto accident. My significant other can die.

I'm receiving intermittent warnings to service the airbags. This comes as a surprise since this is fairly solid state and not something that gets depleted such as oil, brakes, or tires. I have no idea who the manufacturers are of the airbags but would like to know if they are takata. Chevrolet should not be dodging responsibility with safety equipment.

I bought my car and I had no idea about a known issue that this car has. Unsuspecting and trusting, I noticed my car had a reduced propulsion and it would like lose power and just slowly jerk and then really drastically reduce speed without anyway to fix it and on the freeway I got scared as I have never in my life has this happen in any car. So it happen a couple more times and I took a picture of it and took it to the dealership where I purchased it. They told me they couldn’t do l as they can’t repeat the issue. Well that only usually happens when I’m driving but now it’s more. The propulsion thing loses power and I as a driver going up a hill or anywhere now will lose speed and it’s dangerous, I feel like I may not make it home and I took it to the dealership many times and they told m

The electric heating system failed on my volt which disabled the windshield defroster, creating a dangerous visibility situation. The volt has two heating systems, the traditional waste heat from the engine's cooling system and an all-electric resistor pack. When the car runs in all-electric mode, the engine does not engage and the traditional heating system is ineffective. There is a mode that will operate the engine while the battery still has a charge, but the car still runs primarily on battery power and only runs the engine to maintain a certain charge level. There is no backup mode to force the engine to run if the electric heater fails. I park outdoors overnight in a parking lot. This morning, despite engaging the vehicle mode that operates the engine to sustain the battery ch

Ignition shut off on massachusetts turnpike when trying to change from normal (electric) to hold (gas) mode. Mode button is too close to ignition power button. I had to stop in rush hour traffic to put car in drive and restart, could have been hit. I called onstar emergency service in the moment, but they were not aware of a way to restart the car while it was rolling. Discovered later that there is a 3-step process to restart the car while it's still moving, but it is complicated and difficult to remember while panicking about the danger of being hit. There is no automatic way to restart in case of accidental shut off. This should be fixed or someone will get hurt or killed. This has happened to me several times on the highway and I have been very lucky not to have been hit while figuri

Loss of propulsion. Vehicle will not start/move. If vehicle does turn on , it will not turn off. Vehicle has been having reduced propulsion issues for multiple years (taken to dealer many times) that dealership has refused to do a HV battery capacity test while under warranty, even after leaving with them for multiple months they claimed they could not replicate error. On day of pickup error presented itself and I showed service advisor and left vehicle for additional testing. Dealer provided explanation of reduced propulsion when in mountain mode as cause even though vehicle was not in mountain mode when error occurred. Dealer performed customer satisfaction GM Program # N172130462 update 11/2021 on HV system that stopped propulsion issues (mainly battery capacity concerns) until vehicle

My 2014 Chevy Volt suffered a complete failure of the EV power system when the battery reached 0 remaining miles. Unlike normal failover to hybrid mode, the vehicle switched into reduced power mode. I was able to drive home (1/4 mile) in this mode but was unable to charge or drive the car after parking it. At this point the car become completely immobile and had to be towed to the dealer (Jerry's Chevolet in Joppa MD). It was there as of December 18. 2023. This is the same behavior as noted in the complaint about Gen 2 Volts except this is a Gen 1 Volt. In the reduced power mode, the car does not accelerate normally and is subject to power surges. The dealer inspected the car and said that a failed cell in the traction battery caused a fault in the entire traction pack. The resulti

Car is a 2014 volt with 1900 miles. I bought it new recently as a dealer display model with 100ish miles on it. Last night (10/22/15) on our trip to visit family and friends out of town, I was driving the car in hold mode (cruising at highway speed) and l. It had about 20 miles of charge left. Speed was approximately 65mph cruising. I suddenly get a dash indicator indicating that I am in reduced propulsion mode. The car's power is reduced, throttle input is decreased, and I am not able to accelerate as before. I move over the the slowest lane asap. The internal combustion engine was now off and I had switched to using the remaining charge. I then called onstar. They ran a diagnostic and came up with two codes (these are as detailed as my passenger could write down): 1. P0700 transm

On wednesday, december 13, 2017, I was backing up from a starbucks parking lot when I hit my brakes hard to avoid another car (also backing up). The car was in reverse gear at the time I applied the brakes full force. Fortunately, we did not hit each other and I drove on and exited the parking lot. At the first intersection I noticed my brake and stabilitrack warning-indicator lights came on. I was on a surface street with light traffic and when I attempted to brake, as I did, the car swerved and would not brake properly nor come to a full stop even when the brake pedal was fully depressed. Pumping the break I was able to manage with intermittent braking ability and drive the car to my home (which is only a short distance from the starbucks). I opened the hood to check the brake fluid r

Front window defroster not working resulting in poor forward visibility while operating vehicle. Window defroster not working because heating system failed. No heat while operating vehicle in electric only mode. Forcing vehicle to operate in gasoline engine mode provides some heat, but is not effective in cold climate city driving due to infrequent engine operation. It is not possible to force engine to operate continuously. Based on Chevrolet volt owners forums the electric heat ceasing operation is a common failure in these vehicles and is the result of an electric heat / circulation pump component failure. This component is unique to this type of plug in hybrid vehicle that does not produce enough engine heat to keep the windshield defroster working. Dealer replacement of t

The waterheater pump on the car is out at just 53l miles and Chevy states that this is not their problem even though we cant get the part because it is back ordered due to so many individuals with the same problem. The reason this is a safety issue is that the car can not defrost the window for visibility. This is an issue and there are several volt owners that are having the same problem due to their fault waterpump system. *tr

The car stopped working at a stoplight while I was driving my son to school. There was no warning other than a "Propulsion power is reduced" message seconds before it stopped working. After turning it off and back on, I got the car to limp out of traffic. By the time the tow truck arrived an hour later, we could barely get it to go into neutral to tow it. After towing it to the dealer, they replaced the engine control module. Since then, it has been working fine.
