I’ve had my car for a year and I change the oil faithfully. Well I now have a rod knocking and not sure why? My car has 138,000 miles on it. And I’ve changed my oil and filter as I should so now my car is sitting in the yard it cranks but when you crank it you wouldn’t think anything was wrong with it. You give it gas and it starts knocking. Why is this happening?

Engine over heats and won't start for several hours. It doesn't matter if the engine has been running for 5 minutes or an hour or more. When turning the key the engine clicks and won't start. You have to turn the key on several times (when the engine is cool) to have the engine start running. I have read this problem has been under recall by Hyundai, but my VIN number is excluded according to…

Common questions
How serious is the engine problem on the 2014 Hyundai Sonata?
It's a meaningful issue. 214 complaints have been filed and the failure mode causes operational problems for owners. Repairs average $3,100.
At what mileage does the engine typically fail?
Across the 98 complaints that reported odometer mileage, most engine failures cluster between 65,000 and 124,000 miles, with the median around 89,891. A quarter of owners report trouble before 65,000; a quarter make it past 124,000. Maintenance history matters more than the odometer alone — this is the reported failure window, not a guarantee.
What does it cost to fix?
Independent shops typically charge around $3,100 for engine repairs on this vehicle. Dealer pricing tends to run 20-40% higher. The exact figure depends on the specific failure mode, parts availability, and your local labor rates. If you're outside factory warranty, an extended service contract often covers this category.
Are there any recalls related to engine?
