My car suddenly lost power and would not accelerate over 20 mph. It gave no warning whatsoever. No check engine light no dash lights at all. It seemed as if it was in some type of protection mode. I took it to the dealer and was told it was my catalytic converter. They replaced the manifold catalytic converter and sent me on my way. Within 15 minutes the check engine light was on and has been on ever since. The back of my car is covered in soot and my car uses about 4 quarts of oil per 2 weeks. My car was NOT like this before. I received a letter about a recall and when I took it to the dealer I was brushed off like it didn't apply to my car. My car was doing the EXACT thing that the recall letter stated. I have kept my car maintenance up and fully feel this is a mechanical default.
After a 290 mile work trip in my 2016 Hyundai Elantra (with approximately 43000 miles on it and regularly maintained at the normal maintenance schedule) I stopped to get gas. When I started the engine, I heard a horrible knocking noise and immediately turned the engine off. I let the engine cool down a little then started it again to get to an important work appointment. It continued knocking the entire time with no warning lights on. After work, I started the car again to drive it to a dealership, the knocking was really bad at this point. I got about a block down the street when the oil and engine light came on and the engine completely shut down while doing about 35 mph. Car shut off while driving. All lights and engine seemed to stall but when I pressed accelerator after a second everything came back on. Am now afraid to drive my vehicle and have it shut down and be in a serious accident.
This has happened numerus times, whether on highway's or city streets. Driving the car you will feel it lurch forward accelerating suddenly and then return to normal driving. The rpms will be at 4000 to 5000 each time. The other day on the way home from a family christmas party with my 2 girls and husband, I had the cruse control set. It suddenly revved up to 4000 rpms on a curved hilly road. This happened at 1am. No other cars where around. My then 16 year old daughter was driving the car to get her drivers license it did it with the instructor in the car. The instructor has her stop and get another car for the test. She said that this was a safety issue with the car and could not continue the test. We had only had the car at that time for 6 months. We purchased the car new with only 6 mi

Route 120 st marys pa 15857 about 7:15am traveling at 45mph hit guard rails head on pushed the whole front of the car in did over $8100.00 damage. The impact was hard enough it pushed the engine back had my seat belt on was uninjured other than sprains and strains and abrasions to my face I hit my head off of I don't know what none of the air bags deployed Hyundai told me they would investigate but would tell me if they find anything or not. I asked specifically for a report so I would know if my air bags failed or did not and they told me absolutely not!!! Do I have a recourse to get this from them or can you demand it from them? While driving on the freeway at normal highway speed, the vehicle experienced a sudden and catastrophic engine failure. The engine immediately lost power, and the vehicle shut down within seconds. There was no prior warning or opportunity to take corrective action. The vehicle became completely disabled and could not be driven. This occurred late at night with limited traffic, and I was LUCKY to be near a freeway exit. I was able to coast toward the exit, but the engine seized fully, resulting in total loss of propulsion and blocking the freeway exit ramp. Law enforcement had to assist due to the disabled vehicle creating a traffic obstruction and safety hazard. A tow truck was required to remove the vehicle because it could not be restarted or moved. Engine turns off unexpectedly when driving. all power steering and brakes stop working when engine itself off. entire engine, drive train, and vehicle shakes while driving. Transmission is a replacement as first one failed after 90 days of purchase. paid labor for replacement and waited over 6 weeks without a vehicle. Now replaced oem transmission slips out of gear. making vehicle difficult to drive as the transmission and engine sputter and make ride jerky. car has turned off on the freeway in traffic 3 times. almost causing an accident each time. car has been robbed at least 5 separate times. stealing items within the vehicle. car was locked and next day it is unlocked and my stuff all gone. i am scared to drive the vehicle. i believe it is a lemon.

My vehicle smells like gas inside the cabin and I can also see the gas fumes coming out of the gas tank once it hits 100 degrees.it is worse when stopped and stop and go traffic due to the air not blowing it away like it does when you keep driving..how is this safe?what if someone smokes? Or a spark hits the gas tank.please check this out so I know my family and I are safe driving this vehicle in the heat..I had the car checked for leaks and no gas leaks.Hyundai gave me a generic paper about it saying thats what it is suppost to do.I just want to know how safe is this vehicle?

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 Hyundai elantra. The contact stated that the passenger side turn signal was blinking and the brake lights failed to illuminate. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer (Hyundai on perryville, 343 n perryville rd, rockford, il 61107, (815) 229-0089) where it was diagnosed that the bulbs needed to be replaced. The bulbs were replaced, but the failure recurred. The contact stated that the incorrect bulbs were installed. The manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. The failure mileage was 111,021.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Available for inspection upon request. Please do! Loss of power. Reported same issues a year ago. Brought to dealership, sold on other services that did not solve problem. Opened a case with Hyundai. No solution. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Random loss of power. Hyundai rep stated it’s a problem their systems do not actually scan for so it’s common this won’t appear in inspection reports. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? This is our third elantra. While we like the looks of the vehicle and the way it generally handles we are greatly dissatisfied with the tires that are standard on the vehicle. Since we live in western pennsylvania and experience wintery weather we have found that these tires are very dangerous on winter roads. We are sure that many people are involved in accidents unless different tires have been purchased that perform better in these conditions. We have never owned a vehicle that the first thing we had to do was purchase new tires in order to drive in winter weather. The added expense in totally ridiculous considering the purchase price of the car! We expressed our concern to the dealership to no avail....I am surprised there is not a class action lawsuit regarding this matter. Unf

A few years ago, my 2016 Hyundai Elantra hatch stopped opening. The hatch lever next to the drivers seat as well as the key fob button stopped working. I know there was a trunk latch recall number 208 from Oct. 2021. Hyundai told me there’s nothing I can do about it. I haven’t been able to get into my trunk for 3 years.

I purchased the 2016 Hyundai elantra gt from van horn Hyundai in sheboygan wi on 8/18/17. It was sold as certified pre owned - no accidents. The auto check report they provided showed a clean history. I began experiencing what seemed to be suspension issues- car would skip sideways on bumps and had the feeling that it wanted to fishtail. I ordered a carfax report and it showed the vehicle was in 2 accidents, and after more digging, I found it was sold by insurance auto auctions to joe van horn Chevrolet in plymouth wi. When I presented the dealership with what I had discovered, they claimed it was a mistake and that they had no way of knowing the history of the vehicle since it was originally purchased by one of their other dealerships. Brake lights constantly have to be replace twice a month. Wheel bearing have to be replaced twice a year. Brakes don't stop if mash quickly when hitting small hole. Its just grinding sound. My safety and others are put at risk every day. No messages or symptoms of problem till it happens, no warning lamps.

Front headlights need replacing one monthly. Had it repaired at the dealership while still under factory warranty. I was told it was a wiring issue but several months after the problem still persists. The front highbeams and daylights have been replaced for going out (no longer working) 12 times in 2 years.
