full bulletin at NHTSA ↗BATTERY QUICK CHARGE NOTICE SERVICE INFORMATION When charging the vehicleâs 12 volt battery with the high amperage quick charge function, the ignition should never be ON, or turned ON, while charging. Attempting to start the vehicle, or turning the ignition ON, while using the high amperage quick charge could potentially damage the fuel pump control module. ï· Only turn the ignition ON when either the ESM or a technical service bulletin service procedure states to do so, and only while using a battery maintainer or smart charger set to reflash mode, or a similar setting. ï· Battery voltage should not exceed 16V during a reprograming operation.
