Here’s the short version: Ford is recalling a batch of trucks because the gauges that tell you how fast you’re going and how hard the engine is working can lie to you. Stuck needles. Erratic readings. On a speedometer, that’s not a cosmetic annoyance — that’s a safety problem.

If you drive one of these trucks, keep reading. This one covers a wide range of Ford work trucks, but the F-150 in the mix is the 2026 model year.

What’s actually failing

The problem lives in the analog instrument cluster — the physical gauges behind the steering wheel. According to the recall filing, the tachometer and speedometer needles may get stuck or move erratically. That means the readings you see can be flat-out wrong.

Mechanically, the cluster is the module that drives those needles based on signals it receives about engine RPM and vehicle speed. When that module misbehaves, the needle doesn’t track reality. You might see a speed that isn’t your speed. The needle might freeze. It might jump around.

Why that matters: you steer and brake based on what that gauge tells you. If it reads low, you might be going faster than you think. If it’s stuck, you’ve got no reliable reading at all. Ford states plainly in the filing that a speedometer failing to show accurate vehicle speed can increase the risk of a crash. That’s the whole point of the recall.

There’s a regulatory side too. These trucks fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard Number 101, “Controls and Displays.” That standard exists so the information in front of you is accurate and readable. A cluster that gives false readings doesn’t meet it.

What the filing says

Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2025-2026 F-250 SD, F-350 SD, F-450 SD, F-550 SD, F-600, 2026 F-150, and F-750 SD vehicles. The recall is logged under NHTSA campaign number 26V653000, and Ford’s internal number for it is 26C46.

The affected count is 102,159 vehicles.

Ford received the recall on October 6, 2026. The VINs tied to this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on October 7, 2026.

Here’s how the notification is rolling out. Interim letters, warning owners about the safety risk, are expected to be mailed on October 26, 2026. Those first letters tell you about the problem but don’t fix it. A second round of letters goes out once the repair parts are ready, which Ford anticipates in December 2026.

The fix itself: dealers will replace the instrument cluster modules, free of charge.

What this means if you own one

  1. Run your VIN. Don’t assume. The VINs became searchable on NHTSA.gov on October 7, 2026, so you can check whether your specific truck is included. Use the campaign number 26V653000 or plug in your VIN directly. If you’re shopping a 2026 Ford F-150, check the VIN before you buy so you know what you’re walking into.

  2. Watch for two letters, not one. The first letter around October 26, 2026 is a heads-up about the danger. It does not mean the repair is ready. The remedy parts aren’t expected until December 2026, and a second letter will tell you when you can schedule the free cluster replacement. Don’t throw out either one.

  3. Don’t trust a gauge that’s acting up. If your speedometer or tachometer sticks or jumps before your repair is done, treat it like the warning it is. You can’t safely judge your speed off a needle you can’t trust. Drive conservatively and get it addressed as soon as the remedy is available.

  4. The repair is free. Ford is replacing the cluster module at no charge. If a dealer tries to bill you for this specific recall work, that’s not how a safety recall works. Push back and reference the recall.

  5. Document everything. Keep your letters. Note the date you first saw erratic or stuck readings, if you do. Save your service paperwork when the cluster gets replaced. If anything goes sideways, a paper trail is your friend.

  6. Have questions before then. You can reach Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and reference recall number 26C46.

The honest take

This is a straightforward recall with a clean fix. The defect is real and worth taking seriously — a speedometer you can’t trust is a safety issue, not a quirk — but Ford has a defined remedy, it’s a full cluster replacement, and it costs you nothing.

The catch is timing. The warning letters come first, in late October 2026, and the actual repair parts aren’t expected until December 2026. That’s a gap where you know about the problem but can’t yet fix it. During that stretch, pay attention to your gauges and don’t assume the needle is telling you the truth.

Check your VIN, watch for both letters, and get the cluster swapped as soon as the remedy is available. For a 2026 truck, that’s the right way to handle it.
