Recall Roundup: 2 New Vehicle Recalls (August 9, 2026)
This week's notable NHTSA recalls — what's failing on each vehicle, the safety risk, and the fix.
Two recalls this week, one on a full-size truck and one on a batch of electric vehicles. Both involve parts that were not put in right at the factory.
2019-2026 Ram 1500
Chrysler is recalling certain Ram 1500 trucks because the second-row seat belt buckle anchors may have been installed wrong. When those anchors aren’t secured to the body correctly, the belt can’t hold a rear passenger the way it’s supposed to, which raises the risk of injury in a crash. Dealers will inspect the buckle anchor and attach it to the body structure as needed, at no cost. This is NHTSA campaign 26V495000, and Chrysler’s own number is 67D. Owner letters are expected to go out August 18, 2026, and affected VINs become searchable on NHTSA.gov on August 6, 2026. Questions go to Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403.
2026 Cadillac Escalade IQ (and related EVs)
General Motors is recalling certain 2026 Cadillac Escalade IQ and Escalade IQL vehicles, along with the GMC Sierra EV and Chevrolet Silverado EV. The high voltage battery may have an internal module component that wasn’t secured properly. A loose piece inside can move around and damage the battery, and that raises the risk of a fire. The fix here isn’t small: dealers will replace the entire high voltage battery, free of charge.
This is NHTSA campaign 26V494000, with GM’s number listed as N262562600. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed September 14, 2026. VINs became searchable on NHTSA.gov on July 30, 2026.
