The car is making an annoying "whining noise/hum" when driving. As the speed increases so does the noise. I have had the 2014 durango citadel (v6) 2 years and have approximately 16,000 miles on it. I started to notice the noise around 12,000 miles. The tires are inflated at the recommended tire pressure and have been recently rotated. This has had no effect on the level of noise. I spoke…

After parking in my driveway which is on a very slight angle to the street, I went inside and sat down. A few minutes later, my neighbor came to the door and told me my car was in the street. It had rolled back about 50 feet . The vehicle was still locked and showed it was in park. Thank god there were no injuries.

Common questions

How serious is the powertrain problem on the 2014 Dodge Durango?

It's a meaningful issue. 41 complaints have been filed and the failure mode causes operational problems for owners. Repairs average $2,500.

At what mileage does the powertrain typically fail?

Across the 35 complaints that reported odometer mileage, most powertrain failures cluster between 10,100 and 72,500 miles, with the median around 33,000. A quarter of owners report trouble before 10,100; a quarter make it past 72,500. Maintenance history matters more than the odometer alone — this is the reported failure window, not a guarantee.

What does it cost to fix?

Independent shops typically charge around $2,500 for powertrain repairs on this vehicle. Dealer pricing tends to run 20-40% higher. The exact figure depends on the specific failure mode, parts availability, and your local labor rates. If you're outside factory warranty, an extended service contract often covers this category.

Are there any recalls related to powertrain?

No active recalls currently cover powertrain issues on this vehicle. The complaints filed represent owner-reported failures that haven't risen to the level of a manufacturer-issued recall — but they're still worth knowing about before you buy or budget for repairs.
