What owners are saying recent NHTSA-filed complaints · verbatim

2025 Tundra · cruise control
Throttle lag, was stopped at a stop sign and had an opening to go, when I pressed on the gas the truck went as normal and then completely stopped accelerating. By the time it accelerated again it jolted the truck and was narrowly missed by cross traffic.

2025 Tundra · other
I was driving down the highway about 5 minutes, it was 34 degrees outside, family in car (with baby). No cars in front of me at all, didn’t drive through an underpass, didn’t hit any potholes, and out of nowhere the front panoramic sunroof exploded. It sounded like a gunshot in…

2025 Tundra · powertrain Crash
Unintended acceleration. When you stop the truck, and have the brake on, the rpms go down to idle ~650. As soon as you lift the brake, without touching the accelerator, the vehicle starts ramping up the rpms and moving. On level ground it will go to 1000 easily before you…

2025 Tundra · powertrain
The vehicle has a recurring safety-related defect where there is a long, unpredictable pause (1–3 seconds) between pressing the accelerator from a stop and the truck actually accelerating. This hesitation occurs when pulling away from a stop sign, traffic light, or after braking…

Common questions

Is the 2025 Toyota Tundra reliable?

Mostly yes. With a reliability score of 7.2 out of 10 based on 101 owner complaints filed with NHTSA, the 2025 Toyota Tundra is generally a sound vehicle. The areas to watch are listed in the top problem section above — most are budget items, not deal-breakers.

What's the most common problem on the 2025 Toyota Tundra?

Based on NHTSA records, the most-reported issue is powertrain, with 28 complaints filed. Average repair cost runs about $2,500 at an independent shop.

What's the most expensive thing that goes wrong?

The powertrain is one of the costlier repair items. Average repair cost runs about $2,500 at an independent shop. Catching early warning signs can sometimes extend life by 20–30,000 miles.

How do I check if my Toyota Tundra has open recalls?

Paste your VIN into the decoder at the top of this page. We pull live from NHTSA, so you'll see exactly which campaigns apply to your vehicle and whether the dealer has logged the fix. Recall repairs are always free regardless of mileage or warranty status.

Is an extended warranty worth it on a 2025 Toyota Tundra?

Math is straightforward: a quality service contract runs $1,800–3,500 over 3 years. With 101 complaints on file and the costliest repair averaging $2,500, one major failure more than pays for it. The catch is reading the contract — many providers exclude wear items and require pre-authorization, so cheaper plans aren't always better value.
