Editorial perspective by Mark Driver · Founder, ProblemsByVin
I've had plenty of GMC in the bay over the years, and the fuel-system complaints on these don't surprise me. 695 on the NHTSA record across 28 model-year entries (2005–2024) is not a fluke. The 2006 GMC Envoy is carrying most of the weight on this category — about 35% of every fuel-system complaint filed against GMC comes from that one truck. The pattern shows up across the lineup, but that year-model is where it concentrates. 1 fatality report on file with NHTSA tied to this category on GMC vehicles. That elevates this from nuisance to safety-critical. Average shop fix runs about $1,200 — not catastrophic, but it adds up over time. Across the 513 complaints reporting odometer mileage, the median failure lands at about 62,173 miles. Check the fuel pump access cover for prior work. A vehicle on this list that already had a pump replacement is a vehicle to consider — the work is done.
