Passenger Occupant Sensor is Malfunctioning. Very similar condition to Recall 16V244000. Nissan is stating that the VIN number is not impacted by the recall but I believe it is the same issue and that they did not expand the recall to cover all the affected vehicles. Dealer reports that to fix the issue, the lower seat cushion must be replaced as the occupant sensor is located in the seat…

The passenger airbag doesn't sense adult passengers and the deactivated light is lit. Nissan won't do anything. I guess it doesn't matter to them until someone gets killed.

Common questions

How serious is the airbags problem on the 2014 Nissan Rogue?

It's a meaningful issue. 65 complaints have been filed and the failure mode causes operational problems for owners. Repairs average $1,100.

At what mileage does the airbags typically fail?

Across the 39 complaints that reported odometer mileage, most airbags failures cluster between 13,000 and 60,070 miles, with the median around 33,400. A quarter of owners report trouble before 13,000; a quarter make it past 60,070. Maintenance history matters more than the odometer alone — this is the reported failure window, not a guarantee.

The exact figure depends on the specific failure mode, parts availability, and your local labor rates. If you're outside factory warranty, an extended service contract often covers this category.

Are there any recalls related to airbags?

No active recalls currently cover airbags issues on this vehicle. The complaints filed represent owner-reported failures that haven't risen to the level of a manufacturer-issued recall — but they're still worth knowing about before you buy or budget for repairs.
